Meet your host,
Jena Carlin
I am a commercial food and lifestyle photographer who has worked with big name brands for the past 13 years and developed an ironclad system to price for every project or shoot. And now I help others to do the same.
I've never seen the demand for content like what we're seeing right now in the food photography space.
I don't have to tell you that 18 months ago, the world changed forever.
Busy, booked-out wedding photographers suddenly had nothing but cancellations on their calendar.
Family portrait and lifestyle photographers couldn't get anywhere near their clients physically and their revenue stream completely evaporated.
At the same time, people were spending more and more time at home and particularly, spending time on their phone. Mobile screen time increased and brands started to feel the need for even more content: striking, visually arresting food photography content.
As more and more people began brewing kombucha, making sourdough, trying new recipes, and reacquainting themselves with the art of cooking at home, brands felt an even bigger need for high quality food photography to feed the endless demand on social media.
Most photographers lost their revenue stream completely but food photographers actually saw an increase in demand for their work.
I know I did - my studio was crazy busy, even during the height of pandemic.
Last year, I hosted an online summit solely for food photographers and stylists to connect with others and to create a global community, including those who were experienced and already working in the field and those who were considering a pivot from other niches. The Master the Art of Food Photography Summit was born.
However, in speaking with attendees, it became very clear that so many were working for trade, exposure, or for very little money. And many confessed that even though they were charging for their work, after they did all their editing, paid for their rented equipment, and paid their team, they ended up earning less than minimum wage.
I knew that, now more than ever, it was crucial to share my carefully honed strategies and techniques for pricing. As they say, a high tide raises all ships.

Now is the time to stop cringing at how much you are actually earning after all your expenses are paid and start pricing like a pro, valuing your work and your skill and having an income that reflects it.
The demand for high quality food photography content is not going to go away, even when the world opens back up. As a mom, a multiple business owner, a wife and a mentor, you could say I have my hands full. But I still have commercial clients coming in.
I want to teach you the methods I use to market effecively and professionally to brands without having to to do tons of cold outreach.
And when it comes time to create an estimate or quote, I have systems in place that factor in my experience, skill, costs, and all the other elements that impact a price.
Feel like you might be missing some of those details? Check out my workshop series exclusively for food photogrpahers.

Here's what some of our attendees say about our world-class, unparalleled virtual events!
What our VIP mentees are saying about working with us in our program:
I was really undercharging for my work… and I knew it, but I was just struggling with having the confidence to increase my prices. The amount of time and effort that I was putting in once I did the calculations, it was like, “Okay, great, I'm making minimum wage or less.”
Since starting the program, what I'm charging for a day rate has about tripled.
